Bubba Gump, The Curve

I’ve been meaning to try Bubba Gump for the longest time. So last weekend we decided to head over to The Curve to commence our food hunt. After strolling for a couple of minutes, he chose Bubba Gump since I’ve never tried it.

My first impression on Bubba Gump at The Curve was very positive – Staff were very alert and even took time to explain their modus operandi, since it was my first time there. I was pretty amused by the metal plating on the table to alert the staff for order/bill/request.

The two signs are meant to assist you in hailing the waiters. When the sign is red, it's for the waiters to STOP at your table. And when it's blue, they should run away. Cutee!

The name of this diner is actually based on the movie Forrest Gump. The interior design and deco of the diner is purely based on the movie, where they have quite a number of interesting interior pieces, posters and description from the movie. They even had the movie run on screen! Managed to catch a few scenes of the movie (like when Tom Hanks, as Forest Gump sent his girl off to a bus).

Since it wasn’t Alex’s first time, he knew what he wanted – Onion Rings for starters! It was stacked with the bottom ring being the biggest, as shown below. The onion rings were well prepared, the onions were soft and tasty coated with deep fried crunchy outer layer. Loved the crunchy bit as it was fluffy and not too oily.

As I browsed the menu, I noticed the specials are mounted on a ping pong bat lookalike, apparently it was Forrest's favourite game (Yes, I haven’t watched the movie!).

I finally settled on a main for two – Shrimper’s Heaven, Bubba Gump’s specialty, which is quadruple cones combo set that includes Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp, Chilly Shrimp, Fried Shrimp and Tempura Shrimps, accompanied with a variety of sauces. Chose this out of so many options mainly because I wanted to try all four different styles instead of betting on one!

From top left; Fried Shrmps, Tempura Shrimps, Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimps and Chilly Shrimps

Of all four, my favourite was the Chilly Shrimp simply because I could taste the freshness of the plump juicy shrimps which sits perfectly on my taste buds. Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp was deep fried, and battered with coconut. Crunchy and sweet (from the coconut strips) on the outside, moist plump shrimp on the inside. Absolutely yummy. Fried Shrimps were almost as good as the Dumb Luck Coconut Shrimp, equally as moist and plump but the batter isn’t as sweet and crunchy. The Tempura Shrimps were very ordinary, could hardly taste the shrimp as the batter was a tad too thick!

The shrimps gave us both a hearty lunch despite the moderate portion. Don’t be fooled by its appearance!!

Right after our scrumptious lunch, I headed home to download Forest Gump, the movie :D
