Y U NO Reply?!

I’m pissed. Like really, really pissed.

I really couldn’t understand, why do some people deliberately want to make things harder for others? How hard or time-consuming could it be to merely acknowledge receiving an note and later do something about it instead of pretending you never received it? And how unprofessional can you get with that exclamation mark, huh? I had no idea they provide such training at your side.

The worst part is, the next time I see that idiot, I would have to smile, shake hands and pretend nothing has ever happened. That little prick ruined my otherwise wonderful morning. I should start practicing subtle sarcasm and poker face (useful during meet-ups in future).

I know, I know .. being in this line makes me susceptible to meeting horrible assholes like that. In years to come, as I climb up the ladder, I’m sure the situation would be much, much worse D: I have seen the top guns debating in a very civilized manner when I know, deep inside, they are probably burning with fury.

It’s time to suppress the daredevil me and put up a brave (poker face) front.

Property Talk

Getting a new house is a HUGE and exciting deal, especially for young adults like myself. I felt the painful pinch the moment I wanted to get a condo unit by myself, despite me getting it at a really good deal.

While I was (and still am) pretty certain on my objectives in getting that condo unit, the on-going news and word-of-mouth that Malaysia’s property market is slowing down affected me at times and I would end up wondering if it’s the right property to get at this point of time. In fact, before I actually decided on this condo unit (which is away from the city centre), I once considered getting a studio unit along Jalan Ampang, approximately 5-minutes’ drive from KLCC! Well, I’m not sure how reliable these rumours are but if I were to purchase this studio unit at approximately RM 1,000 per sqft, I would be panicking already!

I was actually very much attracted to that studio unit. It’s situated at a premier location and the show unit totally got me enticed. There were quite a number of people at the show unit and the atmosphere was crazy it totally didn’t help clear my mind. I did all my homework on the developer’s credentials, project details and so on. I was this close to finalizing the deal, then I stopped short and wondered, if a studio unit is suitable for me, if a 500+ sqft lot is what I would call a home. I decided it isn’t, and so I let it go.

I guess one of the most important factor NOT to succumb to in getting a property is peer pressure. You wouldn’t want to be in a rat race to compete with peers/strangers and end up spending a ridiculously huge amount on something you didn’t really like/want. Don’t do it just because other people seem to desperately want to, BUT if you’re certain on what you want and if you are financially capable, buy a place instead of renting one so you could benefit from its capital appreciation.

For first-timers, it’s probably worth checking out government programmes i.e. My First Home Scheme (MFHS) and also, 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA).

Of Valentine's Day Recap and Nando's New Witty Ad!

Post Valentine's Day recap - How did yours go?

My Valentine's Day this year isn't exactly interesting. Heck I spent the night on the roads to KLIA, in the boarding hall and on the plane, heading to Miri. My boss joked it was somewhat a privilege to dine thousands of feet up in the air. Well, not when I was really exhausted, all cooped up in a tiny seat with limited leg space! :'(

Complaints aside, my Valentine's this year is memorable for all the wrong reasons sigh. Well, on a happier note, I came across this witty, sarcastic print ad by Nando's. While I think it's pretty mean to hit on KFC when they hit rock bottom, it definitely gave me (and many others) a good laugh on a Wednesday afternoon :D

Let's all face it. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there so you can't really blame Nando's for pulling this off. Brownie points should be awarded instead for putting this in a very creative manner.

Help me click 'THUMBS UP' for me, pretty please? :) Click HERE! Thanks so much, mwahs!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

It used to be the case where Valentine’s Day is much awaited by couples in love but dreaded by singles. In fact, some actually hate Valentine’s Day, just like Jessica Biel’s character in Valentine’s Day (movie) in 2010 D:

The very much commercialized Valentine’s Day celebration is often perceived to be a fun and romantic occasion IF you are in a loving relationship. It actually isn’t. Valentine’s Day is celebrated to express love to people we are comfortable with, be it your parents, siblings, colleagues or anyone who once made an impact to our lives with their affection and support. Most importantly, Valentine’s Day isn’t what staunch religious people believe to be – that this one romantic day would eventually lead to unlawful sex. HARAM!

Not to forget those who are madly in love with one another, Valentine’s Day celebrations need not be exaggerated. A stalk of rose and some affection is good enough (I’m helping the guys to save money :P)

The way I see it, whether you’re single or in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to have fun with loved ones. At the end of the day, what matters most isn’t how many gifts you get, or how lavish your celebrations are. Rather, it’s your ability to live the day with passion.

So whether you’re single or not, have a happy Valentine’s Day!! ;)

Help Me Win A PRADA? ;)

Okay guys, I need a favour. A huge one. is running a contest – Confessions of a Bag-aholic – with really, really attractive prizes up for grabs! I came to know about it when I posted a picture of my Longchamp on their Facebook page as a testimony from a satisfied customer, thanking them for their quick and efficient service on top of a really careful and beautiful wrapping!

Ever since I bought my first designer bag – Gucci Sukey Tote in Paris, my interest in designer goods has deepened significantly. I started to appreciate them better, and am always looking out to get my hands on my next favourite piece, AND I have been wanting a Prada for the longest time because well, a Prada is a must-have for fashionable women. I have yet to own a Prada designer handbag so this is the perfect time for me to own one!

And that epic line, was the caption to the photo I submitted for the contest, in hopes of winning a Prada!!

Unfortunately for me, I submitted the photo like 2 weeks before the deadline, 29 Feb’12 so yea, right now I really needed a lot of votes to catch up to be even considered for judging, which is gonna be 50% on votes and 50% on photo and caption.

GUYS, I really need all the help I can get :(

So, if you are willing to, click on this link right here: CLICK HERE

You will land on either the main page (see picture above, left) or straight to my photo (right). If you happen to land onto the main page, I would deeeeply appreciate it if you could click on “GALLERY” (highlighted in yellow circle), click on my photo and click “THUMBS UP” to vote for me!

Really appreciate all the help I can get. Oh btw, the page may take a while to load, probably due to all the photo submission ;)

And if you're kind hearted (and are not occupied), share this on your profile to help me boost the likes? :(

On an equally happy note, I went for my first ever audition/casting for a relatively high-paying part time job, and guess what? I GOT IT!! :D We were required to catwalk and pose for 5 judges, donned in dark jeans, white top and high heels. Thank goodness I didn’t trip or fall. I was later told that the judges stressed on height, figure (especially on the hips), face and hair.

I must have had a good hair day ;) xoxo.

Of Festive & Public Holidays and THE Photography Contest!

While I appreciate the abundance of public holidays, I dreaded the after-effect of a long, long break. I practically dragged myself off the bed, to the showers, to the train and to my office – and the first person I bumped into was none other than my direct superior.

Him: Why do you look so sad?
Me: Ugh, cause I have to get up early for work today .. *sad face

Witty reply to someone who evaluates my appraisal and determines my yearly increment whoops. Thank goodness he’s a cool manager, otherwise .. I dare not imagine.

Now that the most-awaited festive and public holidays – Chinese New Year, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday and Thaipusam – are over, my days ahead look pretty gloomy, until my Krabi trip in May and Perhentian in June! I’m finally getting my diving license, after years and years of talking about it.

New year’s resolution #3 – (considered) CHECK!

Plus, I was really nice to two people whom I dislike (a lot) so new year’s resolution #4 – Check? :)

(Random) Just to share this photo, which I had submitted to participate in the PETRONAS CNY photography contest themed ‘Reimagining Energy’.

I decided to submit this because the spirit of tossing yee sang has always been the highlight of Chinese New Year! It doesn’t really matter if you really understand the real meaning behind every toss because the tradition of tossing yee sang with shouts of ‘huat ah!’ (rich and prosperous) stays true to us and brings us closer to one another.

I remember shouting ‘huat ah!’, ‘big bonus big bonus!’ and the most epic line was ‘must win baccarat later!’; which eventually led to my biggest win ever! :D

There are a few categories so if you do not have a big ass RM 40k camera, fret not cause this photography contest caters for all members of the public. Since that photo was taken using my iPhone 3GS, I submitted my photo under the mobile category :) Winners of the various categories will have cash prizes and will then have their masterpieces displayed and exhibited at Galeri PETRONAS *fingers crossed!

So if you’re interested to rival me, contest is open till 12 Feb’12! :)

Movie Review: Haywire

There were so many promising movie trailers lately that Alex and I didn't know which to go for on a lazy Monday afternoon so the first thing we did was to ALL of them - Chronicle, The Grey, Haywire and Man on a Ledge

Chronicle ranked the highest among the four, rated 84% fresh while The GreyHaywire and Man on a Ledge were rated 77%, 80% and 32% respectively. Man on a Ledge was declared rotten on but the movie trailer looks really good so it's on my Must Watch list ;)

We decided on either Chronicle or Haywire, and the final call was on Haywire due to its availability and timing.

It was a big, big mistake.

This dynamic action-thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh boasts a talented cast that includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas, Michael Angarano; and introduces MMA superstar Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, in a demanding lead role that has her performing her own high-adrenaline stunts. Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive. -- (C) Relativity Media

My verdict? Please don't waste your money and time on this. Seriously, Haywire came off as a senseless, confusing movie with messed up plot and aimless casts running about kicking each other's butt. Come to think of it, the movie title totally described the entire plot.

Don't let this snapshot fool you.

The trailer gave me a relatively good impression of it being an interesting action-packed film with a tough nut actress doing her thing, just like what Kate Beckinsale did in Underworld: The Awakening, but no, Gina Carano (lead actress in Haywire) couldn't act for nuts. Her facial expressions were limited as hell, and her lines were delivered very forcefully. Worse, the fight scenes were absolutely fake and amateurish I almost fell asleep during one of them.

While I enjoyed Underworld: The Awakening, rated it rotten but Haywire was rated fresh when I was suffering for 90 minutes, in silence.

I'm never gonna rely on movie critics anymore.

Heart Matters: What Is Love?

Saw this on FB which I thought was a rather poignant sharing.

A student asked a teacher, "What is love?"

The teacher said, "Go to the wheat field and choose the biggest wheat. You can go through it only once and cannot turn back."

The student went to the field and he saw one big wheat but he thought maybe there would be a bigger one next. Then he saw a bigger wheat, but again, he thought maybe there's an even bigger one waiting for him.

When he finished half of the wheat field, he realized the wheat was not as big as the previous ones. He knew he had missed the bigger ones, so he went back to the teacher, empty-handed.

The teacher then told him, "This is love. you keep on looking for better ones but later you will realize you have missed the right person and he/she won't be with you anymore."

Don't know about you but this short story kind of hit me.

On a happier note, I recently shared my thoughts on unplanned pregnancy and contraception on Yes, I Can

I visited a friend when I was back home for Chinese New Year, and I was well, utterly surprised to find out the story behind her newborn daughter, which made me realized that contraception is not only important to teenagers or single ladies, but also to (happily) married women for better family planning.

So, in a way, my friend's story inspired me to produce this article. I would love to credit her for this, if only she allows me to ;)
